Miriam Butterman is a progressive educator whose expertise spans 20 years of classroom teaching, curriculum design, program and instructional leadership, coaching, and school-wide professional development. Miriam’s experiences as an international educator, administrator, writer, and visionary inform her work to connect students, faculty, and leaders to their communities. Her coaching sessions and workshops encourage curiosity, integrity, and authentic connections.

Miriam received her Masters in Education from NYU and has taught across all grades in international (IB), bilingual and independent schools since 1999 in the Republic of Panama and New York City. She’s worked as a Middle Years Coordinator, Assistant Head of Middle School, and Program Head for New York City independent schools. She collaborates with and coaches faculty to develop fluid learning arcs and is committed to aligning curriculum that integrates inquiry, global action, values-based education, authentic assessment, and universal life skills.

Miriam’s background with various learning philosophies and methodologies has informed her passion for creating innovative unit design. She develops training and workshops for educators that is personalized and unique to each learning organization. Her unique approach to aligning organizational goals with project-based learning and equitable assessment comes from her experience as a teacher advocate, her seat at educational leadership tables, and her beliefs in student-centered classrooms.

Miriam is also a certified RYT-500 Yoga instructor with extensive training in meditation and Vedantic philosophy. Not long ago, Miriam believed education and Yoga were two different paths and the only reason they should cross was to add relief to a long workday. She's since realized that by weaving universal philosophies and values into the curriculum she can empower teachers and students to manage the stress of rigorous work. In 2013, she launched her first faculty/workplace Yoga program, as well as a Yoga program for adolescents. She promotes the practice of Yoga in education and any organization committed to social change.

Miriam is a published author and continues to develop creative writing projects while taking breaks to strum the guitar
