Good teaching is not simply left to expertise. It requires the inclination to step aside and facilitate – advocate for the learner, create opportunities for thinking in action, cultivate humility, self-awareness, curiosity & growth.
The stars we are given. The constellations we make. ~ Rebecca Solnit
Why use the Teacher Coach?
Schools that provide professional development and a coaching framework model awareness that learning never ends, and promote a culture of engagement, collaboration, and community support for the learning experience of all students.
The Approach:
Whether working with leaders, departments or individual teachers, I set up a cycle so we can all embody the learner’s mindset:
We’ll establish purpose through conversation:Teachers, leaders, and schools set the goals.
We’ll use inquiry to research what more we want to know about and take time to plan, organize and and participate in experiential learning with reflection.
We’ll set the classroom and the teacher’s process up for success with our new learning.
We’ll assess the outcomes together, reestablish purpose, and go back to inquiry and practice till the cycle feels complete.
We won’t create more work, rather we’ll focus on what is already working in the program, in the curriculum or the teacher’s practice; then through a collaborative process, we refine the craft to encourage fluid, accessible and successful learning for all students.
